On July 13, 2023, a male stabbing victim sought medical attention at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, ultimately succumbing to his injuries. The subsequent investigation, spearheaded by SAPD Homicide Detectives, uncovered an unsettling undercurrent of gang-related violence.
Ricky Raymond Rocha, a 19-year-old resident of Santa Ana, emerged as the main suspect after a thorough investigation, leading to his arrest on November 28, 2023. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office subsequently filed murder charges against Rocha, citing special circumstances related to gang involvement.
The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, reportedly fell prey to Rocha’s alleged actions on July 12. The severity of the charges against Rocha includes murder with special circumstances, a felony count of participating in a criminal street gang, along with additional enhancements for gang activity and personal use of a deadly weapon.
Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, Santa Ana Police Department Officer Natalie Garcia, acting as the public information officer, confirmed the gang affiliation of both Rocha and the victim. Despite an ongoing investigation, Officer Garcia refrained from disclosing further details, assuring the public of imminent updates.
As legal proceedings unfolded, Rocha’s Thursday arraignment offered minimal clarity, with no plea entered. The subsequent hearing is scheduled for December 14 at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana, while Rocha remains in custody without bail.
The community is urged to help the ongoing investigation by providing relevant information to SAPD Homicide Section Detectives at (714) 245-8390 or contacting Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS.
