In an extraordinary response to the challenges posed by a slow and strained economy, residents of Santa Ana turned out in unprecedented numbers for a free Thanksgiving food drive held yesterday. Organized by Seva Collective in collaboration with Mayor Valerie Amezcua, Councilmember Phil Bacerra, and Councilmember David Penaloza, along with partners SAUSD, Project Kinship, Project Foodbox, and CAPC, the event sought to provide crucial assistance to those facing challenges during the holiday season.

The event, which took place yesterday, saw a line of cars stretching beyond sight, and individuals patiently queued for blocks to receive Thanksgiving turkeys, pork loins, and boxes of food. The large turnout underscored the ongoing challenges faced by many in the Santa Ana community, while simultaneously highlighting the community’s resilience and the commitment of local leaders to address these pressing needs.

Mayor Amezcua, Councilmembers Bacerra and Penaloza, along with a dedicated team of volunteers, worked tirelessly to ensure the event’s success, distributing Thanksgiving provisions to over 700 families. The scale of the initiative was unparalleled in Santa Ana, showcasing the dedication of local leadership to making a tangible impact on the lives of residents.

Reflecting on the event, Mayor Amezcua expressed gratitude, stating, “Yesterday was a beautiful day!! Worked with SEVA, Project Kinship, and so many other organizations and volunteers, giving Thanksgiving turkeys/pork loins and boxes of food for over 700 families. Thank you to ALL the volunteers. We had a great time blessing others.”
